Sunken WW2 Fighter Planes, Mele Cascades, & the Blue Hole Tree Swings

November 4, 2018

After renting a van for the day with our good friends from SV Me Too, we circumnavigated the island of Efate in Vanuatu. Near the north of the island was a former World War 2 USA military base. We heard about snorkeling to places with sunken planes, big anti aircraft guns, and surplus military supplies. Unfortunately there was only 1 plane accessible here, but up at the next island was a place called Million Dollar Point. The US Army dumped supplies, sunk boats, and drove trucks off a cliff after the locals didn’t want to buy any of them following the end of WW2. It was cheaper than transporting them back to the States. There was also a natural brackish water swimming hole with giant tree swings that kept the kids, young and old, entertained for hours. The Male Cascades are a beautiful waterfall complex that you hike up through the water, getting drenched along the way with a big swim hole and secrete cave at the top. Natural slides on the way down. It was a good time had by all.
